Rockwall QB Braedyn Locke

What he did: Locke passed for 413 yards and five touchdowns to lead Rockwall to a 75-28 win over Jesuit at Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium in Rockwall. Locke was quick to praise his receivers, especially junior Noble Johnson, who had eight receptions for 190 yards and two touchdowns in his first start for the Yellowjackets.

The stats: Locke was 26-for-38 passing against Jesuit and is 36 for 57 this season for 536 yards. Locke rebounded from Week 1 when he threw four interceptions and no touchdowns in a 42-29 win over Cedar Hill. The Jesuit game was his fifth-highest yardage total in his career behind four games in 2019, when Rockwall advanced to the Class 6A Division I state semifinals. His career high is 569 yards in a 66-59 loss to Highland Park on Aug. 30, 2019.

Who is he: A 6-1, 195-pound senior, Locke has committed to Mississippi State. He started playing football when he was in the third grade and living in Mesquite (his family moved to Rockwall the next year), although his first game didn’t turn out well. “My first game I played tight end, but I got called for holding four times. The coaches saw me throwing the ball around the next week and then they moved me to quarterback,” Locke said.

Offensive player of the week: Quarterback Braedyn Locke of Rockwall

He said it: “We have a lot of new faces this year and a big goal in the offseason was to bring it together. This week was because of the work we have all done together since January and February. The best thing is we’re not even close to where we can be and we’re still having success.”

Coach said it: “Braedyn led the way in the offseason with all the throwing he did with his receivers. He has brought them under his wing. He been at it so long he can probably call the plays as well as the coaches do, but he’s still working to get better.” Second-year head coach Trey Brooks, who has been on the Rockwall staff since 2013.

Did you know? Locke plans on majoring in business at Mississippi State, but he is not sure if it will be in accounting, marketing or management. … Locke’s favorite courses in school are psychology and history. … Locke’s favorite meal includes ribeye steak (medium rare), brussels sprouts and salad with caesar dressing. … Locke’s favorite athletes are Los Angeles Lakers guard LeBron James (even though his friends give him grief because of it) and Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. “I like Baker’s attitude when he does things right,” Locke said.
